Authorities are warning hikers to steer clear of streams and rivers where salmon are running and to take precautions after bears mauled hikers on two different occasions within a week in Anchorage.

The most recent mauling happened near the South Fork of Eagle River. Responders described the hiker’s injuries as not life threatening.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, the victim is a 67-year-old woman who is in stable condition after she was rescued with a helicopter Tuesday and brought to a hospital. “She sustained injuries to her head, neck and arm,” APD spokesman Christopher Barraza wrote in an email Wednesday.
