The vibrant colors, music, and culture of the Dominican Republic will fill Sixth Avenue tomorrow for the 43rd Annual National Dominican Day Parade, and city officials are making sure the celebration is both joyful and safe.

The NYPD is significantly boosting the number of cops at the Dominican Day Parade on Sunday — after an unruly crowd and a slashing forced police to shut down the festivities early last year.

The parade is in its 43rd year of celebrating Dominican heritage and pride in the city. The step-off will be led by Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. The theme for this year is "Quisqueya & USA: United in Culture and Tradition," and the Grand Marshall is MLB 7-times All-Star Nelson Cruz.

The National Dominican Day parade will start two hours earlier and run fewer blocks, with 500 more cops assigned than last year, when one man was slashed and the celebration was shut down early.
