Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka says he "demands a lot" after being named the club's new captain. The 32-year-old only arrived this summer from Bayer Leverkusen but has been handed the armband by head coach Regis le Bris as the club return to the Premier League for the first time in eight years.

After captaining for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Arsenal and Switzerland, Granit Xhaka will now wear the armband for Sunderland.

The Switzerland midfielder was signed from Bayer Leverkusen a fortnight ago. Xhaka had a past experience as a Premier League captain at Arsenal, before it was taken from him by manager Mikel Arteta after clashing with fans.

The Switzerland international arrived at the Stadium of Light for last month and has already made a strong impression at his new club.
