Prayers are pouring in from fans and friends as beloved Bay Area media fixture Greg Papa, the San Francisco 49ers play-by-play broadcaster, is battling cancer. Papa, 62, announced the news in a written statement on KNBR,

Papa did not specify the type of cancer he is battling in a statement released by the radio station but said he is fully focused on his treatment and looking forward to a full recovery. “Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes as I begin this fight,” Papa said.

Greg Papa is the radio voice of the San Francisco 49ers on KNBR. He's also covered the Giants and Athletics, the Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors for decades.
