Incredible new footage shows Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano as it erupted on Wednesday morning. Lava shot up as high as 300 feet in the air, while lava flow covered 20% of the Halema’uma’u crater. This marks the 30th eruption from this volcano this year.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) said “vigorous fountaining” of the Halemaʻumaʻu crater eruption began around 1:20 a.m. HST.

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted again on Wednesday, August 6, spewing glowing lava from the Halemaumau crater as it entered the 30th episode of its ongoing eruption.

Episode 30 of the ongoing Kīlauea eruption on the Big Island began at about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, producing lava fountains of 150 to 300 feet high from the vent, according to officials with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The activity started around 1:20 a.m. with broad fountains 150 to 300 feet high from the crater’s north vent, covering about 20% of the crater floor. A new line of smaller fountains also emerged south of the old south vent area, coinciding with a cluster of small earthquakes.
