A fast-moving wildfire that ignited in a canyon southeast of Lake Piru had burned more than 5,370 acres and prompted evacuations in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The fire was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 in the 6700 block of Holser Canyon Road near Piru and quickly threatened ranches and other properties in the area.

Fire officials say the blaze is threatening power lines as well as the communities of Hasley Canyon and Hathaway Ranch.

Firefighters are making progress in their battle against the Canyon Fire north of Los Angeles. The fire, which broke out Thursday afternoon near Lake Piru, is now 25% contained, thanks to overnight water drops which kept the flames at bay,
