July 31 is the tipping point for teams across Major League Baseball to decide whether they've got a shot at the 2025 postseason or if 2026 will be a better year. At 6 p.m. ET, the trade deadline will be up, closing off the easiest avenue for franchises to add proven, impact talent to their rosters.

TRADE: The Red Sox have made a deadline deal, sending minor-league infielder Blaze Jordan to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for 34-year-old pitcher Steven Matz. The Cardinals officially announced the move Thursday morning. The veteran lefty worked out of the bullpen in St. Louis, but has experience starting games.

The 2025 MLB trade deadline arrives at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 31, so teams only have between now and then to make trades involving players on their 40-man rosters. Waiver claims can still happen at a later date, but for trades involving big-leaguers, this is it.
