The Old Globe Theatre announced that actress Katie Holmes will headline its 2026 in a bold new production of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. The reimagined version of the classic play is by Erin Cressida Wilson, commissioned by The Globe.

The casting reunites Holmes with the Globe's artistic director, Barry Edelstein, who directed her in the Off-Broadway production of ‘The Wanderers' in 2023.

Film and stage actor Katie Holmes will open The Old Globe’s 2026 season in February, starring as the title character in a new version of Henrik Ibsen’s classic drama “Hedda Gabler.”

The Old Globe's Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, who directed Katie Holmes in the off-Broadway production of "The Wanderers" in 2023, is set to direct this "fresh and emotionally charged take on the Ibsen classic.
