A former Palestinian national soccer team player and star of Gaza's Al-Shati'a Services Club was killed by Israeli forces while waiting to get humanitarian aid.

The "Pele" of Palestinian soccer hoped to keep scoring goals until he was 50. An Israeli tank shell dashed that dream a decade early, his family said, killing Suleiman al-Obeid as he queued in southern Gaza this week to collect food.

Al-Obeid also played for the Palestinian national team, scoring a memorable scissor kick against Yemen in the 2010 West Asian Football Federation championship

Al-Obeid was described as “one of the brightest stars of Palestinian football” by the Palestinian Football Association.

Suleiman Al-Obeid, 41, was killed by Israeli "bullets," that "targeted" Palestinians who were "waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza," the PFA said in a statement in Arabic. The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately respond to ABC News' requests for comment on Al-Obeid's death.

Obeid, known fondly as the Palestinian Pele, was killed in an attack by Israeli forces while waiting for humanitarian aid, the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) said. Al-Obeid, who was 41, leaves behind a wife and five children.
