California will receive nearly $1 billion in previously frozen federal education funds after the Trump administration reversed course amid growing outrage and concern about the impacts to students across the nation.

The U.S. Department of Education on Friday released federal funding that was previously withheld to California, Arizona and other states. Since July 1, education departments across the country have been urging the administration to unfreeze $6.

The Stevens Point Area Public School District initially faced an estimated $680,000 reduction in federal funding.
