TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Podul landed in Taiwan on Wednesday, prompting widespread closures in the south and east while most northern areas remain open. The Central Weather Administration has expanded land warnings to include all areas south of Changhua, as well as Hualien and Taitung, per CNA.

CWA weather forecaster Liu Yu-chi said Podul appeared to have intensified as it approached Taiwan and was expected to pass over the island on Wednesday before reaching the Taiwan Strait after sunset, according to Focus Taiwan.

Typhoon Podul is expected to intensify as the system tracks toward southern Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and damaging wind gusts before making landfall on Wednesday.
