Josh Gad announced he has COVID-19 and dropped out of a stage production of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar," set for the weekend at the Hollywood Bowl.

Josh Gad will no longer be appearing in Jesus Christ Superstar alongside Cynthia Erivo in Los Angeles this weekend after contracting COVID. On Wednesday, July 30, the Tony-nominated actor, 44, confirmed through an Instagram statement that he will miss the musical’s opening weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, which is slated for Friday, Aug. 1.

Spaceballs 2 will be directed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar filmmaker Josh Greenbaum. Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman are also set to star, alongside returning actors including Rick Moranis, who is expected to come out of retirement to reprise his role as the villainous Dark Helmet.
