The wife of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has marked what would have been their first month married, three weeks after he died in a car crash.Rute Cardoso shared photos of their 22 June wedding in a post to Instagram.

Just 11 days earlier, Jota had married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, in Sao Cosme, in his home city of Porto, where they were surrounded by their closest friends and family, including Liverpool team-mates Andy Robertson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Diogo Jota’s wife Rute Cardoso has spoken for the first time publicly since the death of the Liverpool forward. Jota, 28, was travelling across Spain in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, when he was tragically killed in a road traffic accident alongside his brother Andre Silva, 25.

The couple, high school sweethearts since 2013, had built a life together, moving from Porto to Wolverhampton and Liverpool as Jota’s career soared.
