At least six people have been killed this week and around 2,000 tourists stranded in India's Himalayan state of Sikkim in landslides and floods after incessant rainfall, officials said on Friday.

Sikkim Chief Secretary Vijay Bhushan Pathak said on Friday that nine people have died in the last three days due to two landslides in the state.Pathak said that around 1,200-1,400 tourists are also stranded in the Mangan district of the state.

The chief minister also appealed to the public to stay alert, follow safety guidelines and cooperate with the authorities in order to overcome this calamity and restore normalcy in the state.

The 15 foreigners include two tourists from Thailand, three from Nepal and ten from Bangladesh are stranded in Mangan district in Sikkim

"Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during June 14-17," the weather office's bulletin said.
