Events to mark 80th anniversary of VJ Day
A series of commemorative events to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day are set to take place across Bradford. VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, is commemorated on 15 August each year, and marks the date in 1945 when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, ending World War Two.
When is VJ Day 2025 and what is the date about?
VJ Day, also known as Victory in the Pacific Day, or VP Day, falls this year on Friday August 15. The allied victory will be celebrated across the UK. In the US, VJ day is celebrated on September 2, the date on which the surrender document was signed, officially ending the war.
Two town councils to mark 80th anniversary of VJ Day
TWO town councils are to mark the anniversary of VJ Day with memorials in Northwich and in Winsford. Friday, August 15, is 80 years since the surrender of Japan and the effective end of the Second World War. On the same day there are services at Northwich War Memorial, off Church Road, and at Winsford War Memorial, off Dene Drive.
