Samuel Heins, Joel Bergstrom, Ellen Luger and Kowsar Mohamed were appointed to the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents.

The new members include a search firm principal, a retired U.S. ambassador, former minister counselor at the United States Mission to the United Nations and a doctoral student.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz appointed four new members to the University of Minnesota Board of Regents Tuesday, marking a rare gubernatorial appointment of members that are typically selected by the Legislature.

On Tuesday, Joel Bergstrom, Samuel Heins, Ellen Luger and Kowsar Mohamed were appointed to the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents.

The four people appointed by Gov. Tim Walz will make up one third of the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents, which oversees the five campuses of the state system.
