The money will support dozens of different approaches for improving women’s health, from new medicines to prevent maternal mortality to vaccines to curb infections that disproportionately affect women.

The Gates Foundation will spend $2.5 billion over the next five years on projects related to women’s health, just as the US government pulls back on science research and international development.
