The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the latest entry in the 2025 movie schedule to dominate the box office, and for many, including me, it’s a great soft reset of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the things I most liked about it was that it wasn’t heavy on the MCU-cameos like so many others have been.

This iteration of the Fantastic Four has a standalone adventure without all the burden of the MCU's history and cast of characters.

First Steps has cemented itself as one of Marvel's biggest films in recent years, bringing the first family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in glorious fashion, delivering what many have already proclaimed as the best live-action iteration of Fantastic Four to date (not that there's much competition to begin with).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set during the 1960s, unlike its predecessors, which were set during modern times and don't tell their origin stories. In addition to that, the film ( alongside Thunderbolts) has also set the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for a December 2026 release.

Superman is soaring high at the box office while Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps is struggling to keep up. The latest numbers, reported as of August 3, 2025, show a pretty big gap between the two superhero movies.

First Steps, has quickly become a huge hit, beating all previous Fantastic Four films in box office earnings just 10 days after its release. This 2025 superhero film is part of the MCU and marks the second reboot of the Fantastic Four series.

First Steps might have faced some issues, but the MCU movie has already passed the full domestic run of its closest predecessor.

First Steps is far from a bomb, but its box office performance does raise questions about how Marvel Studios should proceed going forward.
