The UK is set for some "unseasonably wet and windy" weather next week as a huge band of rain is heading towards the country. Currently there is a yellow thunderstorm warning in place in the south of England which is set to remain in place until 9pm on Thursday (July 31), but there could be further warnings issued next week.

The BBC is to reunite with the Met Office for its weather forecasts and climate updates, eight years after the relationship between the two organisations ended. The new partnership, announced on Wednesday, is aimed at delivering "the most trusted and accurate weather service to everyone in the UK", the corporation said.

The state-owned forecaster lost the contract to provide weather forecasting services to the BBC to another provider, MeteoGroup, in 2016.

The Met Office has predicted "plenty of sunny intervals" for Liverpool. The weather agency said it will be a "bright and fine start" for the region, today, Thursday, July 31.

The BBC and the Met Office are to work together to counter “weather disinformation”. Britain’s main weather forecasting service, funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, was dropped by the corporation in 2017.
