Spain’s national weather agency warned of extreme fire risk in most of Spain, including where the largest blazes were burning in the north and west.

Fire crews in Greece, Spain and Portugal are racing to contain wildfires, taking advantage of calmer winds that slowed the blazes’ advance. Much of southern Europe, however, remains at high risk under hot, dry conditions on Thursday.

General wildfire advice from the FCDO warns that wildfires happen often in Spain and Portugal during the summer months. It says, “wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable”, and advises travellers in high-risk areas to follow the advice of local authorities.
