Amtrak's new high-speed NextGen Acela trains will soon begin operating between Boston, New York and Washington, D.C.

Amtrak’s long-awaited new Acela trains are debuting this month, just in time for Labor Day. The NextGen Acela trains will officially launch on Aug. 28, and travelers can look forward to an elevated passenger experience and faster train times alongside Amtrak’s most popular route.

“NextGen Acela is more than a new train—it’s an evolution of travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “In just a few weeks, history will be made with the debut of NextGen Acela as we launch a new standard for American train travel.”

Amtrak will begin rolling out NextGen Acela trains on August 28, launching five trainsets that will operate on the Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington, D.C. The new trains offer up to 160 mph top speeds, more seats per departure and upgraded onboard amenities, according to Amtrak.

The new trains feature 27 percent more seats and more daily departures, Amtrak said. They will have a top speed of 160 miles per hour, 10 miles per hour faster than the current fleet.
