Sources say Utah plans to keep veteran big man Georges Niang after reacquiring Niang this week in a trade with Boston. The Jazz also acquired second-round picks from the Celtics in 2027 and 2031 in the trade that sent two-way guard RJ Luis to Boston.

The Celtics reportedly are trading recently acquired forward Georges Niang and 2 future second-round draft picks to the Utah Jazz in exchange for rookie RJ Luis Jr.

The Utah Jazz plan to keep Georges Niang, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. The Jazz acquired Niang from the Boston Celtics, who acquired the forward from the Atlanta Hawks in the Kristaps Porziņģis trade.

The Celtics moved off Georges Niang's salary in a deal with the Jazz before signing free agent forward Chris Boucher to a one-year deal.

The Utah Jazz plan to start the new regular season with Georges Niang on the roster, Marc Stein reported. At least those are the initial plans for the Salt Lake City franchise. They also currently have Jusuf Nurkic and Kyle Anderson, veterans who could help their young core.

Niang -- who was born in Lawrence and grew up in Methuen -- was acquired by the Celtics from the Hawks in late June in a salary dump that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta. The Celtics also received a future second-round pick in the move, which shed Porzingis' $30 million salary off the Boston books.
