ISLAMABAD -- The Taliban said Wednesday that efforts to free a British couple from an Afghan prison are not yet complete and denied that their rights were being violated despite concerns from their families and U.N. officials.

The son of a British couple detained by the Taliban five months ago says he fears they may die in prison. Peter Reynolds, 80, and Barbie, 76, were arrested on 1 February while returning to their home in central Bamiyan province, Afghanistan.

Barbie and Peter Reynolds have been held in Taliban captivity in Afghanistan for nearly six months, and the reason for their detainment remains unknown — now, their son is speaking out.

Barbie Reynolds, 76, and her husband Peter, 80, were arrested as they travelled to their home in Bamyan province, central Afghanistan, in February.
