Louisiana’s first human case of West Nile in Orleans Parish comes as mosquito activity climbs, with 10 others infected statewide and hundreds of positive mosquito pools detected.

The New Mexico Department of Health has confirmed the first West Nile virus case of 2025 in the state on Thursday. According to NMDOH, a Valencia County resident was hospitalized with the infection and has since been discharged.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the state's first West Nile virus human case in 2025.

A local county alerted the community that a dozen mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Greene County Public Health officials were notified by the Ohio Department of Health that 12 mosquito samples taken from Bellbrook, Beavercreek, and Fairborn tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to a media release.

Fourteen human cases of West Nile virus, including three cases requiring hospitalization, have been reported in the state this summer. Cases have been identified in nine counties: Cass, Burleigh, Hettinger, McLean, Mercer, Richland, Morton, Kidder and Stutsman. Most cases have been reported since mid-July, with cases nearly doubling this week.

The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment announced Monday that the city's first human case of West Nile virus this season has been confirmed. Officials in Jefferson County have also confirmed their first human cases of the virus,

So far this summer, at least 44 samples of mosquitoes in Michigan have tested positive for a mosquito-borne illness. That includes mosquitoes from Wayne, Washtenaw, and Macomb counties.

The virus was found in mosquito samples collected in Bristol and East Providence in July, according to the state Department of Environmental Management.

It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to cause a severe illness. There is no vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile.
