Root was selected by the Dodgers at pick No. 40, becoming the area's highest pick since Shane McClanahan was selected 30th overall in 2018.

FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas baseball standouts Zach Root and Charles Davalan both signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, according to MLB.com .

Arkansas baseball pitcher Zach Root was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft Sunday night.

Root was elite with Arkansas this past season, pitching to a 9-6 record with a 3.62 ERA, striking out 126 over 99 1/3 innings pitched.

Zach Root and Charles Davalan helped take Arkansas to the semifinals of the College World Series earlier this year. Now, they'll be teammates once more in the organization of MLB's reigning champions.
