The new Amtrak Borealis train will launch May 21 with afternoon departures from St. Paul and late morning departures from Chicago, according to the rail company. The train will represent a second daily option to travel between the two major cities. Tickets start at just $41 for coach fares.

The second daily round-trip passenger train runs from Chicago to the Twin Cities— by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Dells and La Crosse.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- In what it calls "a new way to see the Midwest," Amtrak has is launching a new daily train service from Chicago to the Twin Cities. The Borealis Service begins Tuesday, May 21, according to Amtrak. Borealis trains will run Union Station in Chicago to Union Depot in St. Paul, Minnesota – passing through Milwaukee on the way.

The trains will make the current Empire Builder stops between St. Paul and Milwaukee and Hiawatha stops between Milwaukee and Chicago.

Amtrak says it will expand passenger train service between St. Paul and Chicago this month, adding a second set of daily trains.

Travelers looking to head to the Twin Cities will have another transit option beginning later this month. Amtrak’s new ‘Borealis’ service will provide a second daily trip between the two destinations,

The new route, called the Amtrak Borealis, will run between the two cities via Milwaukee. The train service will leave St. Paul at midday and leave Chicago in late morning. The new line will begin on May 21.
