The Gophers men’s basketball team gained two players and lost one via the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, but beside simple math, it’s hard to see how the U roster got better this week or over the past six weeks.

DeVries won Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year twice during three seasons while playing for his father, Darian DeVries. The 6-7 wing averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 2023-24. He's a career 35.9% 3-point shooter and dynamic offensive threat. DeVries is following his father, who accepted the West Virginia job.

Gophers guard Cam Christie, one of the top freshmen in the Big Ten last season, has entered the transfer portal after previously declaring for the NBA draft. Christie, who is projected to go anywhere from the first round to undrafted, initially announced April 12 that he was maintaining his college eligibility.

When Cam Christie entered his name into the NBA draft it was clear that there was no guarantee he'd return to the University of Minnesota for his sophomore season in 2024-25. Now it appears very clear that he will not return to the Gophers even if he returns to college next season.
