Assembly Member Evan Low is advancing to the November general election in a South Bay House race after a recount Wednesday showed him defeating Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian by five votes.

The congressional race in California that was poised to be a three-way general election will now see a traditional two-way general election after a recount. Democrats Evan Low and Joe Simitian previously tied for second place in the state's primary for the 16th Congressional District,

The tie for second place in the Congressional District 16 race isn't officially broken yet, but on Tuesday Santa Clara County announced both candidates gained additional votes during the recount.
