At least 47 people have died after a boat capsized in a river in Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria. The boat was carrying people travelling to farms in Gorau town, Goronyo local government area.

An armed gang killed 10 people and kidnapped at least 40 others from a village in northwest Nigeria, according to a security report seen by AFP on Monday and a local resident.
