MFJ MFJ-2990: Antenna, Vertical, HF, Multi-band, Non-resonant, 1,500 W, 43 ft. Height, Each - MFJ Vertical Antennas cover a wide variety of needs and frequencies. Vertical antennas were literally invented by Guglielmo Marconi, the great Italian physicist and radio pioneer, in about 1905. In fact, the word "antenna" is derived from the Italian word for a pole. Vertical antennas have been under constant development ever since their invention.Vertical antennas may be found everywhere. Most commonly, a steel element used as an external car-radio antenna is a form of a vertical antenna. Commercial AM radio broadcasts are originated by towers called mast radiators. These antennas are very large towers that are insulated at the base. This allows the entire length of the tower to become the transmit element for the radio station.MFJ's Amateur Radio vertical antennas may cover a single frequency-band, as in a 10-meter ground plane, or several bands, as in their MFJ-2990 multi-band vertical antenna. The advent of automatic antenna tuners has led to the development of non-resonant multi-band verticals, like their MFJ-2990, which are very frequency-agile and efficient. Many people have concerns about limited space or other antenna restrictions. For these folks, MFJ's long-wire antennas, dipoles, Yagis, and other large-footprint antennas may be impractical. In these applications, an MFJ vertical antenna, with their typically tiny footprint, is probably the best solution.
