Alaskan Sablefish (Black Cod) portions | Alaska Gold Seafood 5 pounds (11-15 portions) | This is the black cod featured in Nobu Restaurants in the famous miso-glazed black cod recipe. Alaska Gold Brand sablefish (colloquially known as black cod) is line-caught and handled with the utmost of care. If you like black cod, this is as good as it gets. Caught in the deep water of the North Pacific in Southeast Alaska, our Alaskan sablefish is from a sustainably managed fishery. Known for its richness and similar in texture and taste to a Chilean sea bass, sablefish is absolutely delicious. Sablefish is growing in popularity within the United States both for its rich taste and its reputation as a sustainably caught fish. Black cod's high fat content and buttery flesh define its preparation. Colloquially known as black cod, sablefish is also called butterfish and butter cod. Whatever you want to call it, sablefish is smooth like a sable's fur and buttery. Sablefish is just about perfect steamed, smoked, broiled, and grilled. It pairs well with Asian recipes featuring soy, citrus, and chile, all of which cut the fish's richness and enhance its delicate texture. Alaskan sablefish is also packed with vitamin D, with one of our sablefish portions containing over 90% of the recommended daily value of vitamin D. Our sablefish are caught one by one on hook and line by Seafood Producers Cooperative members, often several thousand feet below the boat deck. Each 100g serving of sablefish contains 1787mg of Omega-3s, which is higher than any other whitefish and even king salmon. Being packed with heart-healthy fatty oils makes sablefish nearly impossible to overcook because it won't dry out like other fish. Sablefish is the perfect fish to help make the home cook look like a gourmet chef. Our individually wrapped and vacuum-sealed portions are skin-on, boneless, and will vary between 6 and 8 ounces. Typically there will about 13 to 15 individually vacuum-sealed portions in a 5-pound box. But, as they are wild fish cut by hand, there is some variance in number of portions in a box depending on portion size.
