Description
Nemesia strumosa is a treasured annual. It produces a profuse number of dainty blooms from late spring through fall. This variety, Blue Gem, has blooms of intense blue with white eyes, and it looks lovely edging the front of the flower border or in containers with a mix of colorful annuals. Nemesia is an 8 - 10 inch tall annual growing in USDA zones 3 - 7. Nemesia performs best in areas with cooler summers. In hot climates they would do best with some afternoon shade and the blooming may slow down, but with a trim and some cooler weather, they can bloom again. Sowing Rate: 1 - 2 seeds per plant. Sow the seed indoors 4 - 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seed into the soil and cover lightly. Keep seed moist until germination. With a temperature of 65 - 72F, germination normally occurs within 14 days. Harden the young plants off before transplanting into the garden after danger of frost as passed. Pinch back at the time of transplanting to encourage compact, bushy growth. Space the plants 6 inches apart. Grow in full sun and in moist, well-drained soil. Nemesia strumosa is a treasured annual.
