As the Fourth of July weekend comes to an end, travel experts are predicting one of the busiest holiday travel periods on record, with roads, skies, and airport

The holiday weekend has come to a close, wrapping up a record-setting travel period for the Fourth of July that saw AAA forecast more than 72 million people to travel by air or car.

According to AAA 61.6 million Americans will have traveled domestically by car, and that’s up 2.2 percent from last year’s Fourth of july weekend, setting a record for highest volume. And by plane 5.84 million are expected to board and that’s a 1.4 percent increase.

As the Fourth of July holiday weekend winds down, many travelers have packed up and are heading home Sunday. But some say the roads weren’t as busy as they expected.
