Alabama football needed veteran running back help entering the current transfer portal entry window. The Crimson Tide seemingly had filled the spot with NC State transfer Hollywood Smothers. However, on Sunday, that all came crashing down. Smothers, who had already announced his commitment to Alabama, reversed course, and will instead join Texas.

Alabama basketball ’s first back-to-back losses of the 2025-26 season resulted in a drop in the Jan. 12 polls. The Crimson Tide tumbled from 12th in the country to No. 18 with defeats at No. 10 Vanderbilt, which rose two spots to No. 8 on Monday, and at home against unranked Texas. Alabama was also ranked 18th in the AP Top 25.
