After a long offseason hoping for an opportunity in the NFL, former UW standout Alphonzo Tuputala is finally getting his shot — and it's with his hometown Seahawks

The Seahawks signed rookie linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala on Monday and waived cornerback Kam Alexander to make room on the 90-man roster.

The Seahawks have signed linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala and waived cornerback Kam Alexander. Tuputala is an undrafted rookie out of Washington. He previously participated in Seattle’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Alexander, also an undrafted rookie, had signed with the Seahawks last month.

Twelve months ago, Alphonzo Tuputala was the last man standing, the only starter to reclaim his old job for the University of Washington football team coming off a national championship game appearance.

It took a few extra months, but Alphonzo Tuputala has gotten his NFL shot. The former Huskies linebacker tried out with the Seattle Seahawks during rookie minicamp in May, but was not offered a contract.
