SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A former top cybersecurity executive at WhatsApp has filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of the messaging app, alleging that the tech giant ignored critical security flaws and put billions of users at risk.

The former head of security at WhatsApp alleges Meta Platforms Inc. fired him in February because of whistleblowing and escalating privacy and cybersecurity concerns up to its CEO.

Attaullah Baig worked as Head of Security for WhatsApp and Meta for just over four years before he was dismissed in April 2025. Now he’s bringing a lawsuit against his former employer, alleging that WhatsApp contains security flaws that violate GDPR laws and Meta’s agreement with the FTC.
