Rescue crews pulled people out of submerged cars and homes overnight as floods swept the southeastern part of the state.

Three people, including a child, are dead, and flash flood warnings were in effect across Tennessee on Wednesday, Aug. 13, after floodwaters brought on by the deadly storms trapped cars near Chattanooga.

A mother, father and child were killed when a tree fell on their car during heavy rain and flooding in Tennessee, where submerged roads also led to dramatic rescues of people trapped in their cars, authorities said Wednesday.
