The Dragon Bravo Fire burning for more than a month on the Grand Canyon's North Rim was 29% contained, a 16% increase from the previous day, according to federal wildfire tracker InciWeb.

A wildfire burning near the Grand Canyon has grown into what experts call a “megafire,” and it has even developed its own weather. The Dragon Bravo fire has been burning for a month near the Grand Canyon’s North Rim after it was sparked by lightning on July 4, according to a news release from the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team.

Just a week ago, on July 22, the Dragon Bravo Fire had burned 13,662 acres, and firefighters reached 26% containment.

The fire has burned for a month on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, destroyed historic buildings and called for thousands of fire personnel.

The still-dangerous Arizona wildfire will require rebuilding and rethinking access to the North Rim to include winter, Kelly said.

As of Aug. 6, 1,343 personnel are working to contain the fire, which is being fueled by mixed conifer, aspen regeneration and ponderosa pine.
