Democrats are aiming to keep control of the Michigan governorship in what is expected to be a competitive general election race. Representative John James, who has served two terms, is seeking the Republican nomination for governor with President Trump's backing.

Unaffiliated voters must affiliate with a major party to vote in their primary, otherwise their ballot will only contain the constitutional amendment. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day will be accepted for up to three days after.
