While the Dragon Bravo Fire has burned more than 123,000 acres, much of the surrounding national park remains open. Here’s the latest.

A wildfire that has closed the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park raged out of control over the weekend and is now the largest currently burning in the country. The Dragon Bravo fire has burned more than 133,000 acres and was only 13 percent contained as of Wednesday morning, according to a federal interagency website that tracks wildfires.

A month after a wildfire erupted at the edge of the Grand Canyon, US firefighters were struggling Monday to bring the blaze under control.The level of containment -- the amount of the perimeter where firefighters have completely stopped the fire's progress -- stood at 13 percent on Monday.

The largest wildfire currently burning in the US is sweeping through Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park, scorching more than 51,000 hectares (126,000 acres) and blanketing the surrounding area in thick smoke.

As of Aug. 6, 1,343 personnel are working to contain the fire, which is being fueled by mixed conifer, aspen regeneration and ponderosa pine.
