A Colorado funeral home owner has admitted to sending customers fake ashes and defrauding the federal government in a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

Carie Hallford, who pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. As part of the agreement, Hallford admitted to sending families dry concrete in place of ashes and stashing decomposing bodies in a room-temperature building.

A former owner of a funeral home in Colorado, who was found guilty of abuse of a corpse, took a plea deal Monday on charges of wire fraud.

Carie Hallford has reversed her plea in the federal case against her and husband Jon and now potentially faces more than a decade in prison on financial crimes.
