India, July 29 -- Fresh military exchanges between the United States and Iran have pushed the Middle East back toward a dangerous flashpoint, with Washington and Tehran exchanging threats after an overnight missile attack.

Four days of relative calm in the Iran war were shattered as the U.S. and Saudi Arabia joined forces to strike Iran-backed groups in Iraq. Also, the U.S. stopped Iran's "surprise attack" on a U.S. base in Jordan.
