The 1,700-acre Crosho Fire that began Monday is one of many severe fires burning in the state. Four other fires already have disaster declarations in place, including the Lee Fire, the state's fifth largest on record.

Thursday, Gov. Polis declared a disaster emergency due to fire conditions and multiple fires burning across western Colorado right now.

In total, 24 fires are raging across the state. The ongoing Lee Fire is already the state's fifth-largest in terms of acreage.

The Lee fire, the fifth-largest in Colorado history, grew more slowly overnight, and firefighters chipped away at containing it.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday issued a broad emergency declaration covering multiple wildfires currently burning on the Western Slope and the risk of new fires as dangerous weather conditions persist in the coming weeks.

There are several wildfires burning across Colorado as crews fight to make progress on the biggest fire burning- the Lee Fire.

Together, five wildfires burning on Colorado’s Western Slope have consumed hundreds of square miles, destroying at least five homes and 19 outbuildings, fire officials said.
