Heavy rain will usher in an unseasonable cooldown across the Northeast and New England, ahead of a brewing coastal storm that could deliver another shot of soaking rain to the northeastern portions of the Interstate 95 corridor this weekend.

Rain and maybe some thunderstorms return to the Kansas City area on Thursday, but unlike earlier in the week, any storms are expected to stay weak and non-severe, the National Weather Service said. Scattered showers are expected mainly in the afternoon as cloud cover steadily increases through the afternoon as the weather disturbance moves through,
