Authorities say a Los Angeles man accused of killing and dismembering his wife, her mother and her stepfather has died in jail while awaiting trial.

A Los Angeles man accused of dismembering his wife and murdering her parents died by suicide in jail, a family attorney confirmed. Sam Haskell IV had been charged with three counts of murder, in connection with the November 2023 deaths of his wife, Mei Li Haskell, 37, and her parents, Gaoshan Li, 72, and Yanxiang Wang, 64.

Samuel Bond Haskell, 37, was arrested in November 2023 in connection with the murders of his wife, Mei Haskell, her mother, Yanxiang Wang, and her stepfather, Gaoshan Li. He had pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and was being held without bail pending trial.

Samuel Haskell died by suicide in jail nearly two years after he was charged with the murder of his wife Mei Li Haskell and in-laws, law enforcement sources told NBC Los Angeles.
