SAN JOSE – Ryane Clowe was named an assistant general manager with the New York Rangers on Monday, one day after announcing that he was leaving that same position he held with the San Jose Sharks.

SAN JOSE – Ryane Clowe announced Sunday that he has resigned from his job as the San Jose Sharks’ assistant general manager. Clowe did not give a specific reason for stepping down, but said in a statement released by the Sharks that the decision was related to his family.

The announcement marks the start of Wheeler's front office career. He retired in July after playing 1,172 career NHL games.

The New York Rangers made several updates to their hockey operations department Monday, notably hiring Blake Wheeler as hockey operations advisor and Ryane Clowe as assistant general manager. The club also promoted Ryan Martin to associate general manager.

A couple of well-known faces are joining the front office in Manhattan. On Monday, New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury announced that the team has hired former NHLer Ryane Clowe as the team’s new assistant general manager.
