The redrawn map comes during a special legislative session called by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, as President Trump urges Texas Republicans to reshape districts in the party’s favor.

The proposed map would give Republicans a chance to gain five U.S. House seats, including in Houston, Dallas and along the U.S.-Mexican border.

The first draft of the lower chamber’s new redistricting map targets Democratic members of Congress in the Austin, Dallas and Houston metro areas and in South Texas.
