Weeks after CBS canceled Stephen Colbert 's The Late Show, the comedian has landed a new gig. PEOPLE has learned that Colbert will guest star on Elsbeth season 3. Better yet, art will imitate life, as he will play a late-night talk show host.

No stranger to fully scripted and serialized TV, Stephen Colbert won’t be going too far outside the box for his newest role. He landed a guest spot on CBS’ acclaimed dramedy Elsbeth, a show that’s delivered a slew of winning guest stars throughout its first two seasons, so there’s no reason to expect this one to be a dud.

Colbert is set to make a guest appearance on an upcoming season three episode of the crime comedy, Elsbeth, which returns Oct. 12. Vulture reported that Colbert will play the host of a fictional late night talk show called Way Late with Scotty Bristol .
