Shortly before the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve his nomination as attorney general, Todd Blanche was flayed by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), a senior member of the committee. Whitehouse opened his remarks by saying it is a “sad and embarrassing day for this committee” as it was set to advance “probably the most discreditable person ever to seek the office of attorney general of the United States.
