For quite some time now, Elon Musk has been promising to bring back Vine. Back in the day, the short-lived TikTok precursor allowed users to post dopey 6-second videos that looped and could be easily shared.

Elon Musk recently announced that he's bringing back the Vine archives, after teasing the return of the social platform over the last week or so. The X owner says that the company recently discovered the entire video archive of the once-popular short-form video app and is working to restore user access.

Before there was TikTok, there was Vine. In 2012, Twitter purchased the prototype short-form video sharing platform for $30 million. Five years later, the app that launched a thousand memes was shut down.

It’s unclear how much of the archive is intact or whether users will be able to log into their old accounts. But the idea of classic Vines reappearing on the X timeline — possibly alongside fresh, AI-made remixes — has already sparked buzz among fans of the original app.
